Contract management: Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts, agreements, and related documents to ensure accuracy and clarity.
Legal research and analysis: Conducting research on legal issues, regulations, and corporate governance, then providing analysis and advice.
Compliance: Ensuring the company adheres to all relevant laws, regulations, and internal policies, which includes managing compliance programs.
Risk management: Identifying and mitigating legal and contractual risks for the organization.
Dispute resolution: Providing support in managing legal proceedings and disputes.
Liaison: Working with internal and external legal counsel, regulators, and other stakeholders as needed.
Law Degree: A bachelor's degree in law from an institution recognized by the Legal Profession Qualifying Board, Malaysia (LPQB) is a fundamental requirement.
Certificate of Legal Practice (CLP): If your law degree is a 3-year coursework degree, you will need to pass the CLP examination to qualify for the next step.
Professional Experience: Several years of legal experience, typically a minimum of two to three, is usually required. This experience is often in corporate legal affairs, a legal firm, or a corporate legal department.
Specific Practice Areas: Experience in a specific field like corporate/commercial law, construction law, or insurance law is often advantageous and sometimes mandatory.
Legal Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of Malaysian laws and regulations, which may include areas like the Construction Industry Payment and Adjudication Act (CIPAA) or insurance law, depending on the role.
Excellent client-facing, communication and negotiations skills and is able to work well with various level of stakeholders.
Strong command of Bahasa Melayu and English, both written and spoken, and is able to develop effective reports and presentations.
Computer Literacy: Proficiency with computers is often required for documentation and data management.
The ability to work independently, display initiative, and lead safety committees is a valuable asset.
